Being a painter is easy. Being a great painter takes a lot of work. Anyone can say they’re a “painter”, but only through experience and hard work does one become a great painter. There is no “one thing” that separates the good painters from the bad painters. It is actually a multitude of things. We are one of the Central Valley’s best painters, which is why I feel compelled to share some of our hard earned tricks and techniques so that you can see what makes us different then the rest and how you can implement some of these professional painting tips yourself.
1. Clean the Walls.
Make sure to clean the walls before you start painting. Cleaning the walls is important to making sure that the paint sticks to the walls. This means taking a sponge or wash cloth and wiping the surface of the walls to remove any dirt or dust.
2. Details Matter
One of the best things you can do is get every single nook and cranny. The devil is really in the details and you can make even a terrible paint job look that much better if you just focus on the details.
3. Paint with The Weather
Try to paint on the days when it is dry outside. Obviously, some regions of the U.S. would make this really difficult, but here the Central Valley we can paint almost whenever and it’ll be ok. Especially, during the summertime when it is usually always dry.
4. Prepare Properly
Don’t do a job half way. If you think that you can just paint over the old stuff and everything will look fine, than you’re wrong. Scrape the old paint off, prep the surface and then paint your walls. Otherwise you are creating more work for yourself and for the next person who paints over those walls after you leave.
5. Set it and Forget It
Once the paint starts to dry leave it alone. If you start to paint over drying paint you’ll create streaks and really mess up your paint job. Because then you are mixing half dry paint with newly wet paint. It just wont’ look professional and you’ll save yourself from having to redo the whole thing a 3rd or 4th time.
There are many other professional painting tips to follow to ensure that your walls look great. These are just a few that we consider some of the best and most important that apply to just about any paint job.
